Ukrainian juice maker diversifies into water

The company’s recently launched functional water is believed to be the first near-water produced in the domestic market.

According to Vitali Vinitski, president of Vitmark-Ukraine, Aquarte has already sold more than 1.4 million bottles since it was launched in June, and sales have continued to rise steadily in the second half of 2008.

A company spokesperson said: “The need for physical fitness, mental well-being and everyday relaxation is the key element behind the phenomenal growth of the functional beverage industry around the world in recent times. Noticing local customers’ thirst for real water health benefits, JV Vitmark-Ukraine launched Aquarte.”

The modern PET bottle design offers glamour and style, and overall consumer feedback to the product has been highly favourable, according to the company.

Aquarte is filled in hot-fill process without preservatives. JV Vitmark-Ukraine has so far invested more than $7m in developing Aquarte, which includes support for product development, additional manufacturing equipment and marketing.

JV Vitmark-Ukraine controls more than 20% of the country’s juice market, and achieved a turnover of $144m in 2008. The company’s main brands are Jaffa, Our Juice and Odessa baby food.
